Swift hands earn Harveys victory
1st
round Harveys v Ashbourne, Matlock Town Youth v Hilcote United 4-1, Black
Hippo v AFC Lea Holloway 1-5, 1-0 Riddings Rovers v Kings Arms 7-3
Harveys
Bar keeper Darren Swift pulled off a fantastic diving save to his right
to earn his team their Cavendish Cup first round victory on Saturday.
The
home side thought it was justice after referee Chris Hillman harshly awarded
a penalty to Ashbourne.
Harveys'
Dan Smith had given his team the second half lead in a highly competitive
contest Ð but both he and Swift won the game to knock out the Cavendish
Cup holders.
In
another Cavendish Cup clash Matlock Town Youth ran out 4-1 home winners
against Hilcote, which was at a canter in the second half. Goals came from
Steven Wood, Alex Crossley, Max Marsden and Craig Purcell Ð while the visitors
replied through Danny Nelson.
Holloway
were convincing 5-1 winners over battling Black Hippo in a third first round
match.
Shaun
Bott opened the scoring on 15 minutes with influential captain Nigel Emberton
making it 2-0 soon after, scrambling the ball over the line.
Black
Hippo got themselves back in the game before half-time when a 30 yard Pete
Brown free-kick.
After
the break the visitors kept it tight with Emberton adding his second goal
with a powerful header and shortly after completed his hat-trick when Jason
Haymes supplied for Emberton to run onto the ball. Bott completed the scoring
firing past the keeper.
The
fourth cup game saw Riddings Rovers manager Gavin Bocking lifting his lads
to a 7-3 victory over Kings Arms.
Rovers
took the lead after some impressive work from Artur Gugala who squared it
for Chris Turner who got a second on 15 minutes before Kings pulled one
back through Dan Holmes from the penalty spot.
Tony
Wain scored with a trademark header and on 35 minutes a Kings defender put
the ball in his own net.
Five
minutes before half-time Mark Turner was sent clear and he finished well
at the keeperÕs near post for 5-1.
In
the second half Kings showed determination and scored two quick goals from
Dan Farmer and Richard West, only for Wain to head a reply on the hour.
The
goal scoring was all wrapped up on 85 minutes when Gugala jinked his way
into the box and finished from a tight angle to make it 7-3.
