action...
Kings
win through the mud
Kings
Arms 4 Ashbourne 1
Home scorers: D. Mason, S. Barsby, M Surgey
Away scorer: B Gadsby
With Ashbourne wanting
a win, and the Kings Arms wanting the points, it was all to play for in
the mud on Crich Rec. With even play at both ends during most of the first
half, it was the Kings who made the breakthrough with a goal from Darryl
Mason.
Fired
up by the manager at half time, the Kings came out fighting and thought
it was all over when Sam Barsby fired in two in quick succession. However,
the Kings sat back as Ashbourne began to push through the midfield, and
they were rewarded with a goal from Ben Gadsby.
With
the Kings on the backfoot, Ashbourne had all the play, putting the Kings
defence and keeper under pressure, but a screaming 30-yard 'piledriver'
goal from old hand and man-of-the-match Matt Surgey sealed the victory for
the Kings final score 4-1.
MOM Ashbourne:
Craig Startin.
Manor
Pharmacy Shield action...
Shirland's
fantastic Shield victory
Shirland
Miners Welfare 3 Riddings Rovers 1
Home scorers: D. Hegarty, S. Boot, R Harrison
Away scorer: A. Bonser
Shirland continued
there impressive ten match unbeaten home record on Saturday with a fantastic
3-1 win against Riddings Rovers in the Manor Pharmacy Shield quarter-final.
Riddings
started this game the better side in terms of possession and could have
been comfortably in front but for the two fine saves from Shirland's keeper
Daz Shaw in the first 15 minutes. He pulled off a fine save to keep out
a thunderous Andrew Bonser effort. He followed up shortly afterwards with
a point-blank save from Mark Turner.
Shirland
realised that they had to step up a gear against a Riddings side that clearly
wanted to win this game and within 20 minutes started to match Rovers all
over the park.
Ian
Hursthouse started to cause the visitor's back four some real problems with
his sheer pace on the ball and could have put Shirland in front with his
first attack.
The
first goal came in the form of Shirland's top goal scorer Dale Hegarty,
this season's new singing boasts the frame of a man capable of wrestling
bears. His strength, power and skill on the ball is the best I've seen in
Stonebroom for many years. And boy can he demolish opponents when he is
hungry and more often than not recently Hegarty has had a big appetite for
goal.
It
wasn't long before Riddings hit back to make the score 1-1 just before half-time
with a well deserved goal from Andrew Bonser.
The
second half saw Riddings go forward with real intent on winning this game
playing some fantastic football and causing Shirland some big problems and
within five minutes of the re-start Riddings were awarded a penalty. Luckily
for Shirland the resulting spot kick hit the post and the ball was cleared
up-field.
Shirland's
second goal came from Steven Boot, with a fantastic 35-yard shot that caught
the Riddings keeper Michael Clover napping and off his line. Shirland's
Ian Hursthouse was up next to put the ball into the back of the net only
to be ruled off-side.
The
second half saw manager Dave Thurnham bring on Oliver Brown, Lee Bellamy
and Ben Skelton to try and tighten things up which stopped Riddings from
playing. Richard
Harrison, who works so hard all over the pitch, moved to left back and made
an instant inpact stopping Riddings coming forward every time they attacked
down the wing.
Shirland's
third goal came when a player was bought down and a penalty was awarded,
up stepped Richard Harrison who cooly slotted home to send Shirland into
the semi-final!!

YouthÕs
Martin hits four in Cavendish Cup win
27
February, 2010
Matlock Town Youth
goal machine Scott Martin sealed his club's Cavendish Cup semi-final slot
with four strikes to earn a 5-2 victory against Tibshelf Community in a
great encounter.
Martin
bagged two in a first half dominated by Matlock to give them a comfortable
lead, but after the break Tibshelf were a real force and were perhaps a
little unlucky to get caught on the break with two more Martin goals and
another from Sam Hodgson. Tibshelf's goals came from Paul Barnes and Dan
Bacon.

and within five minutes were awarded a penalty which luckily hit the post
