Match report from Wednesday, 26 August, 2009

Kings grab all three points
AFC Lea Holloway 3 Kings Arms 4
Holloway scorers:- Shaun Bott (2), Harding
Kings:-

Holloway found themselves 2-0 down within the first 20 minutes and took a while to get going. Holloway pulled a goal back when Shaun Bott slotted home from a Gary Siddall pass to make the half time score 2-1.

Holloway didn't give up in the second half and pulled it back to 2-2 with 20 minutes still to play, Bott again getting on the scoresheet. Emberton then headed wide and Karl Whitford hit the bar before Kings caught Holloway on the break twice in succession to make it 4-2.

Debutant Ben Harding pulled one back for Holloway with a smart finish from the edge of the box, but the score remained 4-3 until the final whistle. Both teams harshly finished with ten men after an exchange between Siddall and Kings' number 10.

Kings awarded Man of the Match to Bott.

Brooks & Hegarty secure Shriland victory
Shirland Miners Welfare 2 Tibshelf Community 0
Shirland scorers:- Antony Brooks,Dale Hegarty
Kings:-

Shirland found themselves up against a very strong and a very different Tibshelf Community side from last year, right from kick off they were very strong, very well organised and determined to cause an upset.

The first half passed very quickly with both teams playing very good football, the second half though saw Shirland take complete control of the game.

The first goal came from Anthony Brooks with a darting run down the right wing to fire home a very sweet goal. Shirland second goal came from new signing Dale Hegarty whose power and strength tore through Tibshelf's defence before slotting home with a fantastic strike.

Shirland did have three more good chances on goal only to be denied by Tibshelf's goalkeeper who won our man of the match for his fantastic displays.

The home side's back four had to work very hard to keep Tibshelf at bay with great displays from G. Bacon, P. Hardy, M. MurpheyÊand R. Hill. Tibshelf's two shots on goal were saved well by goalkeeper D. Shaw.

Man of the match from Tibshelf went to Shirland player Steven Boot.

Armshaw double earns Harveys win
Harveys 2 Laburnum Saints 1
Shirland scorers:- Armshaw (2)
Laburnum scorers:- Clifton

The big-kick off got off to a cagey start with bothÊside's not wanting to commit men forward. But Laburnum were first to take advantage with a good first 20 minute display and go 0-1 through a well-crafted goal from Andy Clifton.

After the goal Harveys seem to come alive, some good movement down the left were causing problems before Jamie Barwick found Dave Armshaw with a super cross to make it 1-1 before the break.

Harveys seemed revitalised after the break and came out strong only to find answer from Laburnum's back five. With the game heading for a draw up stepped David Goodall whose shot from 25 yards was too much for the Laburnum goalkeeper and the ball dropped nice once again for on form striker Armshaw to finish his second.

Harveys came under some pressure towards the end but a brilliant save from Jay Roose in goal won the game.

Anthony Wood Builders' Man of the Match: David Goodall
