Kings
rule over Youth in Pharmacy clash
Kings
Arms put on a strong display to run out easy 4-0 winners in the Manor Pharmacy
Shield against a Matlock Town Youth team that never really got into gear.
A
great second-half looping shot from Daniel Spencer was the pick of the goals,
which added to James Wheatcroft's first half effort. Two more goals came
from Craig Merrett and Paul Wragg on a rain-soaked afternoon in Crich.
In
the other Pharmacy clash Shirland Miners Welfare beat Harveys Bar 4-1, with
a hat-trick from Ian Hursthouse. Dean Cupit added to the home team's first
half 4-0 tally. Harveys snatched one back in the 90th minute after
Shirland cleared the ball three times in the goal area. Hursthouse was Shirland's
man of the match nominated from Harveys.

Shirland
Miners Welfare 4 Harveys Bar 1
Home scorers:- Hursthouse (3), Cupit
Away: Newton
Shirland went through
in the Manor Pharmacy Shield due to some good work in the first half from
their two in-form strikers.
Harveys
had to make alot of changes which saw players out of postion and a defferent
back four for the third game in a row. Harveys got off to a good start with
Martyn Taylor battling hard in midfield. but it wasn't long before the pitch
played its part in the game as Harveys left back Craig Cantrill made the
mistake to allow Shirland to hit home the advantage.
With
the ball holding up as the pitch got cut up Harveys struggled to play the
fast on the ground football aloowing Shirland to hit again this time from
the right to finish with ease.
Harveys
were stunned and couldn't get a foot hold in the game. After the third goal
went in Harveys started to hit back. Darren Swift and Colin Maycock having
chances to pull it back. But once again the Shirland hit men were dangerous
and finished what was a brilliant display from a well-organised side in
the first 45 minutes.
Shirland
knew the game wasn't over and Harveys switched to 4-4-2 but never found
the edge in the final third until the last ten minutes with Cantrill having
the only shot on goal until Dom Newton, in the dying minutes of the game,
gave Harveys a well-deserved consolation goal.
MOM:
D Newton, Harveys Bar MOM: Hursthouse, Shirland.
Spoils
shared by weakened sides
Riddings
Rovers 2 Hilcote United 2
Home scorers:- Bonser, og
Away: Noakes, Ryan
Riddings Rovers entertained
Hilcote United on a rain soaked Ironville Recreation Ground and the result
reflects the encounter as both teams defended well in quite difficult conditions.
The
afternoon started with both managers feeling the strain of having weakened
squads due to other commitments and Gavin Bocking played his first game
outfield for Rovers since September to cover in the heart of defence.
The
game wasn't pretty as both sets of players struggled to keep their balance
at times as the surface was very slippery but Rovers created the first real
chance on 15 minutes when Richard Thurman, who had been moved into midfield,
let fly with a left-footed effort from twenty five yards which curled away
from the keeper but only for him to be denied by an upright.
The
first goal came on 25 minutes and sparked a crazy five minute spell when
a Hilcote forward tried his luck from range his shot hit the post only to
rebound off the keeper and trickle agonisingly across the goal area where
Hilcote's Daniel Noakes was first to react and scored a simple tap in.
Rovers
applied pressure to the visitors defence straight from the re-start and
that pressure paid off when a defender's hurried back pass was miscued by
the goalkeeper and the ball went under his foot for a fortunate own goal
for Riddings.
Two
minutes later a Rovers player tried his luck again and when the keeper could
only push his effort against the post Andrew Bonser followed up to score
his first goal in eight games much to the forward's delight.
The
game was very tight throughout and both defences were on form in the bad
conditions and it stayed 2-1 until the 78 minute when a half clearance fell
to Hilcote captain Daniel Ryan who was given time to bring the ball down
and score the goal of the game with a superb effort from 30 yards which
looped over Daniel Clarke and left the Rovers keeper routed to the spot.
The
Hilcote captain moments later then produced the worst tackle of the game
as he lunged in with two feet, thankfully Ben Bloodman was able to ride
the challenge as the referee played a good advantage but ultimately ejected
the player from the field, a sour note on an entertaining game where both
sides handled the conditions well defensively.
MOM: Mark Turner, Riddings.
MOM: Dean Guy, Hilcore.
Saints
fail to convert chances
Laburnum
Saints 0 Pinxton North End 4
Home scorers:-
Away:
Laburnum Saints travelled
to Pinxton for the postponed Derbyshire Cup second round tie.
Saints
started brightly creating numerous chances but not converting them and were
unfortunately made to pay when Pinxton had a purple patch scoring 3 goals
in 20 minutes to go into half time with a 3-0 lead.
After
an inspirational half time team talk by Laburnum manager Nick Wildgoose
the Saints applied themselves better in the second half and restored some
pride with a spirited performance.
Hopefully
they can take this forward into the important league game with AFC Lea Hollooway
on Saturday.
Laburnum
keeper put in a superb performance and was rewarded with Man of the Match.
