Victory
on the road for gritty Shirland
Ashbourne
1 Shirland Miners Welfare 3
Home scorer:- Frith
Shirland: Hursthouse (2), S,Wright
Shirland's manager
Dave Thurnham was again forced to make changes to his side due to injuries, out
was top goalscorer D,Hegarty (groin), midfielder and captain S. Boot (groin)
and second top goalscorer, midfielder R. Harrison(shoulder).
The
visitors started well and within two minutes Hursthouse broke free to score
with what looked like a good goal, but was dissalowed by the referee with
no complaints from the Shirland players.
Shirland
took control of this game early on and it was a very controlled performance
from O. Brown excelling in midfield that made the difference right from
the start.
The
first goal came when S. Wight's pinpoint cross was dispatched expertly by
Hursthouse on 16 minutes. S. Wright found Hursthouse again who finished
off 14 minutes later with his second goal. Hursthouse found he had too much
space and showed some nimble footwork before delicately picking out the
top corner.
Asbourne
had some good chances in the first half but Shirland's in-form keeper D.
Shaw delt with everything that came at him with ease.
The
second half saw Sshirland waste chance after chance with shots going wide
and over the bar too many times but with Shirland looking in control of
the game manager Thurnham didn't seem over concerned until Asbourne broke
down the right hand side and scored with a thunder bolt of a shot that the
keeper had no chance with.
Shirland
had a five minute rocky spell where anything could have happened after that
goal but in true grit style they turned it around when Hardy went into midfield
for Cupit, Brooks went at centre back and on came R. Hill at left back.
This change saw Shirland take control and start to press forward again.
With
10 minutes left Shirland won a corner and it was S. Wright who rose to head
home with a fantastic goal to make the score 3-1.
Shirland's MOM: Hursthouse.

Holloway
scorers:- Bott (6), Emberton (3), D. Whtiford (2), Pearson, Andrews
Holloway climbed the
league table with an emphatic win over newly-formed Bakewell Youth but credit
to the away side for making a game of it despite only turning up with 9
players.
The
Lea Green lads played some simple football and were 4-0 up at half-time
thanks to two apiece from Shaun Bott and Nigel Emberton. Holloway were much
more direct in the second half but were guilty of some poor finishing.
Emberton
completed his hat-trick early in the second half. Bott added four more,
Dave Whitford helped himself to a brace and Pearson and Andrews got one
each to make the final score 13-0.
A
special mention has to go to Gary Siddall who must have had 10 shots on
goal but was foiled by the heroics of the Bakewell keeper and the crossbar!
Matlock
march on
Harveys
Bar 3 Matlock Town Youth 6
Home
scorers:- Armshaw, Cunningham, Newton
Harveys suffered their
home first defeat this season to a very good Matlock Town Youth outh side.
With Harveys
not getting off to a good side Matlock just couldn't seem to find the finishing
touch in front of goal. Several chance went wide or into the arms of in-form
keeper Jay Roose before Harveys hitman Armshaw showed quality finishing
from the left touchline which some may say was a cross.
That
goal sprung Matlock into action and they hit back soon after with a well
worked goal from their left. Lack concentration in Harvey' right hand side
enabled Matlock to get a second and go in front with half time approaching.
After
the break Harvey's come to life with more chances being made, but it was
a controversial goal that saw Matlock's lead extended.
Harveys
weren't out of the game yet with Newton making his first appearance and
making an impact, forcing a corner which John Cunningham marked his first
goal for the club.
With
time left in the game, Harveys pushed on and had a spell with Goodall looking
strong with a switch of formation from Harveys. But the home side were pegged
back again by a Matlock side who were there to end Harveys home form.
Matlock
were cruising at 4-2 then Newton found the net with a brilliant run from
his own half.
Harveys
just didn't have enough to hit back and Matlock made them suffer once again
with a corner which was pinpoint to find the centre back who headed home.
Matlock
march on with still no losses this season, sending a message to the top
two that there is a long, hard season still head for the frontrunners.
Anthony Wood MOM: Harveys
Jay Roose.
