King
Duke on song to deny Rovers
Kings
Arms 6 Riddings Rovers 5
Home scorers: West (3), Wragg, Barsby, Ford
Away scorers: P. Mosley, Bonser, Gugala (2), D. Mosley
In a ten-goal 40 minute
first half spell in dazzling Crich sunlight, Riddings Rovers thought the
win was on as they went 3-1 up against the Kings Arms.
However
a ruck of goals, including a hat-trick for Richard West and goals from Paul
Wragg, Sam Barsby and Spender Ford, meant the Kings went in to half time
6-4 up.
Halfway
through the second half Riddings made it 6-5, and from then on they were
pushing for at least a point if not the win, firing balls at the Kings keeper.
With no further
goals from the Kings, it was down to some great saves from 'Duke' Hartshorne
that the Kings walked off the pitch the victors.
Riddings
scorers were Pete Mosley, Andrew Bonser, Artur Gugala (2) and Drew Mosley.

Laburnum
Saints 6 Ashbourne 3
Home scorers: Denton, Clifton
Away scorers:
On a boggy day on Dimple
Fields it was the Saints who started brightly and carried this on throughout
the match.
A
long throw saw Saints behind to a well taken shot from the edge of the area.
However, a long through ball saw Pete Denton break the offside trap and
coolly slot home past the advancing Ashbourne keeper to score a one-on-one,
some might say not before time!
Saints
then took the lead through Andy Clifton casually finishing a good Laburnum
move to make it 2-1 at half time.
After
a harsh half time team talk, and a few stern words from the older players
within the team Saints walked out confident they could record only their
third win of the season.
Everything
went to plan until Ashbourne rallied and scored two goals in two minutes.
With half an hour left to play the thoughts of Michael Charlton going into
midfield was not even contemplated by the Saints management. However, thoughts
rang strong and Saints manager Nick Wildgoose wanted 4-3-3, with Denton
joining Clifton and Warren up front.
Ashbourne
could not control the pace of Clifton and Denton, and with the score 3-2
to Ashbourne, Denton capitalised on a defensive error to draw things level.
Extra
time was looming and you could tell that no-one wanted a further 30 minutes
on an extremely heavy pitch, particularly Clifton who tried his luck from
35 yards wide on the left which the Ashbourne goalkeeper could not hold
to see the Saints go 4-3 up. Denton and Clifton eventually scored another
each to complete their hat-tricks with the Saints running out 6-3 winners.
This
could be the result that finally changes the fortune of the Saints in what
so far has been a very disappointing season.
A
special mention should go to Saints' team MOM Dan Killick who, like he predicted
earlier in the day did score, unfortunately it was past his Daddy in the
Laburnum goal!

Away scorers: Emberton
AFC Lea Holloway crashed
out of the Manor Pharmacy Shield with a defeat against league high-flyers
Hilcote United.
Manager
Kev Carline had no choice but to change the team that beat Laburnum a fortnight
ago, with Shaun Bott and Steve Fox absent, along with Lee Bricknell, Craig
Mycroft and Oliver Jones.
Holloway
were very much the better team in the first half, Hilcote unable to penetrate
a solid defence and it was the away team that deservedly opened the scoring
through Nigel Emberton on 31 minutes.
Gary
Siddall, playing in an unfamiliar right midfield position, broke free down
the right and combined with Adam Pearson, whose shot was parried by the
Hilcote keeper straight into the path of Emberton who finished well.
Whatever
was said to the Hilcote lads at half-time obviously worked as they came
out in the second half and took the game to Holloway.
The
home team equalized on the hour with a well taken strike from the edge of
the area that gave Bird no chance.
Holloway
failed to create any solid chances and paid dearly when Keith Taylor was
penalised for a handball in the area and the penalty was duly converted
to make it 2-1 on 75 minutes.
Hilcote
added insult to injury by adding a third ten minutes from time.
Holloway MOM: Nigel
Emberton.

Round-up
Lions
pride
Darley Dale Lions did
the Matlock & District Football League proud despite a 3-2 Derbyshire Junior
Cup North third round defeat away at Hope Valley team Dove Holes.
The
Lions, one nil down at the break, hit back with goals from Aaron O'Neill
and Gaz Whitworth to take the lead before Dove Holes levelled with a long
range shot that bobbled over Lions' diving keeper. The winner came from
a breakaway after a blatant hand ball that wasn't given at the other end.
Shirland
Miners Welfare's Derbyshire Cup game against Midlands Regional Alliance
outfit Woolley Moor United was called off. It was good to see Shirland lads
travel to support their rivals. Dave Thurnham said: "Darley Dale Lions
did the Matlock League proud and were so unlucky not to win the game!"
League
action saw Kings Arms earned all three points in a 6-5 humdinger against
Riddings Rovers in Crich. Ten goals in the first 40 minutes included a hat-trick
from Kings' Richard West with Paul Wragg, Sam Barsby and Spencer Ford adding
to their tally.
Kings
keeper Duke Hartshorne pulled off some great second half saves to keep the
visitors at bay! Riddings scorers were Pete Mosley, Andrew Bonser, Artur
Gugala (2) and Drew Mosley.
Tibshelf
Community earned an against-form two nil win over Matlock Town Youth with
goals from John Hart and Jordan Adams.
It
was a double strike from Colin Maycock and goals from Martyn Taylor, David
Armshaw and Chris Haywood that earned Harveys Bar their 5-2 away triumph
over Black Hippo. Chad Baker got the home side's two goals.
Manor
Pharmacy Shield action saw Laburnum Saints beat Ashbourne 6-3 thanks to
hat-tricks from Pete Denton and Andy Clifton that destroyed Ashbourne who
found it difficult to control their pace.
Saints'
man-of-the-match Dan Killick who, like he predicted earlier in the day,
did score unfortunately it was past his Daddy in the Laburnum goal!
AFC
Lea Holloway crash out of the same competition 3-1 away against Hilcote
United. Holloway were very much the better team in the first half, with
Hilcote unable to penetrate a solid defence.
Holloway
deservedly opened the scoring through Nigel Emberton on 31 minutes when
Gary Siddall broke free down the right and combined with Adam Pearson, whose
shot was parried by the Hilcote keeper straight into the path of Emberton
who finished well.
After
the break the roles were reversed and Hilcote earned their victory with
goals from David Gibson, Mick Hopkinson (with a penalty) and Daniel Ryan.
League
games this Saturday include Harveys Bar v Black Hippo, Matlock Town Youth
v AFC Lea Holloway, Riddings Rovers v Kings Arms, Laburnum Saints v Hilcote
United, Ashbourne v Tibshelf Community. Derbyshire Junior Cup North
Woolley Moor United v Shirland Miners Welfare.
