Injury
time winner delights Thurnham
Matlock
Town 1 Shirland Miners Welfare 2
Home scorers:- Away: Boot, G. Brown
By
'Young' Dave Thurnam
Shirland's manager Dave Thurnham was ecstatic after his side produced a
stunning injury time winner against Matlock Town Youth to win 1-2.
The
home side started well and looked full of confidence coming at Shirland
with their first kick of the ball only for in-form keeper Daz Shaw to make
the first of many fantastic saves.
The
second chance on goal fell to G. Brown for Shirland, a pin-point pass from
R. Harrison set Brown on a darting run passing three Matlock players with
fantastic skill before firing a thunder bolt which rattled the post and
went out for a goal kick.
The
third attack came from Matlock who ran straight through Shirland's midfield
to shoot on goal only to be denied again by keeper Shaw.
This
is pretty much how the first and the second half panned out, Shirland going
forward and Matlock defending, then Matlock going forward and Shirland defending.
Shirland's
O. Brown had a fantastic chance to put Shirland into a 0-1 lead but was
also denied by the post. Their
first goal, a long throw from Harrison found the head of S. Boot to make
the score 0-1.
Manager
Thurnham said before the game that Matlock Youth would be the hardest challenge
for Shirland and he wasn't wrong because as soon as Shirland scored Matlock
came at us again and put Shirland under massive pressure.
As
the game went on and the three points getting closer Shirland bought on
L. Bellamy and D. Hegarty who both had an instant inpact on the game. Bellamy
looked on fire and didn't put a foot wrong and will give the manager a big
headache with team selections.
Hegarty
who never losses the ball at his feet tore into the Matlock's defence with
his first touch having three shots on goal within his first five minutes
on the pitch.
With
one minute left on the clock in normal time Matlock shocked Shirland to
the core with a stunning shot on goal which flew into the net to make the
score 1-1.
Because
there was alot of stops and starts due to injuries the referee pointed out
that there were five minutes extra time to play and Shirland stepped up
two or three gears. After two minutes Hegarty won the ball turned and crossed
to G. Brown who fired home with a sweet shot to give Shirland all three
points.
A
very hard fought game which was fantastic to watch with both teams playing
very good football.
Malock's
MOM went to Shirland's R. Harrison.
Holloway
make it two unbeaten
AFC
Lea Holloway 3 Harveys Bar 0
Home scorers:- Fox, Pearson, Bott
Holloway made it two
unbeaten with a well-earned win against fifth placed Harveys at Lea Green.
In
a re-shuffled side, Lee Bricknell returned in place of the injured Jason
Haymes and Pete Dearman kept goal in place of the absent Andrew Bird. There
was also a start for the returning Adam Pearson.
Holloway
were very much the dominant team in the first half and were 2-0 up at half-time,
Steve Fox heading home a Scott Andrews corner and Pearson rounding the keeper
before slotting home.
Harveys
came at Holloway more in the second half but solid defending frustrated
the away team. Holloway added a third when Shaun Bott scored with a header
from another Andrews corner.
