Kryptonites
earn draw against Shirland
Harveys Bar 2 Shirland Miners Welfare 2
Home scorers: D Armshaw
Away scorers: I Hursthouse
Harveys Bar did enough
to contain a Shirland Miners Welfare side that had many battle wounds. After
playing in the Manor Pharmacy Shield on Friday Shirland's visit to Cavendish
Park in Matlock was always going to be tough as they faced one of the best
footballing sides in the division.
Harveys
started the game on the back foot allowing Shirland to take the game to
them. Harveys having a different side out didn't get going till 15 minutes
into this one, luckily for them Shirland hadn't punished some errors in
the back line.
Then
Ian Hursthouse managed to beat the offside trap when Harveys were on top
to finish calmly past Wild in goal.
Harveys
don't seem to go down without a fight these days and with that they took
it to Shirland not allowing them to play. Some good work from Taylor and
Haywood created an opening down the right for Taylor to cross the ball in
and Dave Armshaw finished with a well-placed header, much to the delight
of the Darley Dale Lions supporters!
The
game was back on with this goal and Harveys were on the front foot before
the break. As the half time whistle went the score was deadlocked at 1-1.
Harveys
started the second-half the better team and continued to put pressure on
Shirland.s defense keeping them on the back foot. The midfield battle was
key in this game and both Goodall and Haywood battled tirelessly for Harveys.
Both
sides had chances to win the game but both keepers worked hard to keep the
strikers at bay. A very good game to watch and a good result for the Kryptonites
as they now go three games unbeaten.

action...
Super
sub Aaron nets the winner
Darley Dale Lions 3 Riddings Rovers 2
Home scorers: A OĠNeill (2), W Harrop
Away scorers: M Turner, A Coleman
An even encounter took
place at the Whitworth Park on Saturday with Darley Lions taking all three
points with a late winner.
The
match started off evenly with both teams having good efforts on goal. Wes
Harrop was unlucky not to open the scoring for the Lions but shot over whilst
at the other end chances were going close.
Riddings
took the lead after a long range effort hit the bar and Mark Turner was
first to react and tapped in the rebound.
Darley
responded well with Ash Webster thundering a shot against the bar. Darley
did get rewarded for their endeavour with a penalty after a Riddings player
handled in the area. Harrop stepped up and slotted home the equaliser. It
stayed 1-1 till the interval.
The
second half carried on the way the first had entered with chances at both
ends of the pitch. Turner went close again before Adam Coleman scored to
put Riddings 2 -1 ahead.
With
Lions behind for the second time manager John Marsden reeled the changes
bringing on top scorer Aaron O'Neill, Liam Keeton and Rob West. The changes
seemed to galvanise Lions.
For
the second match in a row O'Neill came on and had an almost instant impact.
Played through from a Matt Allsop pass he exquisitely beat the keeper and
found the back of the net with his right foot.
With
the scores level it was anyone's game. The game was end-to-end which could
also sum up the winning goal. There was a call for a penalty in the Lions
box not given and the ball went up the other area where Daz Longley was
brought down for a penalty to Lions. O'Neill stepped up to take the penalty.
The keeper did well to save it but didn't get the luck he deserved as O'Neill
followed up to knock in the rebound. Taking his league tally to 25 for the
season.
Riddings
went for the equaliser and pushed an extra man forward going for the equaliser
but stout defending by Paul Godfrey, Ashley Webster, Arran Sellers and Mark
Ashton kept the visitors threat to a minimum.
The
game was nearly sealed in the last minute when Allsop had an effort that
just went past the post. Lions took all three points to guarantee the runners
up spot in the league and keep alive there slender hopes of taking the title.
Riddings
should be commended on their non-stop endeavour and didn't get the point
which they probably deserved.
Harveys
and Holloway share spoils
Harveys Bar 1 AFC Lea Holloway 1
Home scorers: D Armshaw
Away scorers: N Emberton
Harveys Bar and AFC
Lea Holloway shared the spoils in an entertaining and well contested game
at Cavendish Playing Fields in Matlock.
Holloway
almost took the lead withing twenty seconds, Shaun Bott dribbling into the
box from the left only to see his shot deflected wide for a corner.
Harveys
had a good spell of attacking possession but good, solid defending from
the Holloway defence kept them at bay. The best passage of play came shortly
before half-time with Adam Pearson forcing a good save after neat play involving
Nigel Emberton and Carl Whitford.
The
second half didn't interrupt the flowing football and it was Holloway who
took the lead. Holloway keeper David Allen threw to Dave Whitford who in
turn found Pearson deep in the Harveys' half. Pearson unselfishly found
Emberton with as neat through ball and the Holloway skipper finished well
first time into the top right hand corner.
As
the saying goes, 'you're never as vulnerable as when you've just scored'
and this was the case as Dave Armshaw capitalized on some sloppy Holloway
play to finish well across Allen.
Both
teams pressed for a winner but a 1-1 draw was perhaps a fair result.
Two
apiece for Kings and Saints
Kings Arms 2 Laburnum Saints 2
Home scorers: D Spencer, D Holmes
Away scorers: M Charlton, S Prime
Saints defended well
for the first 20 minutes and then got into the game. Their attacking ability
pushed King Arms back and a tactical change put Saints in charge for the
remainder of the half.
Kings
scored with a strike from the edge of the area just before the break only
for Saints to reply within a couple of minutes of the break.
Tiresome
work from Chris Slack, Jimmy Thompson and Matt Warren saw Saints go level
when away man-of-the-match Michael Charlton ambled to the back post to head
the second after a tactical decision from Simon Bunting paid off.
Kings
scored a deflected lob late on and for all their hard work Saints just could
not get the winner! All told, a draw was a fair result on the day. Kings
goals came from Dan Spencer and Dan Holmes while Michael Charlton and Steve
Prime netted for Laburnum.
Saints
would like to give a special mention to Kitty Carson who completed a 10K
charity run on Sunday morning.
Kings MOM: Dan Farmer.
Labunum MOM: Michael Charlton

Hilcote
lift the Manor Pharmacy Shield
9
& 10 April, 2010
Hilcote United lifted
the first trophy of the Matlock & District Football League season as their
tenacity and resolved earned them a fantastic 4-2 extra-time victory over
an injury-hit Shirland Miners Welfare.
Impressive
Daniel Ryan, who grabbed the first goal, deservedly earned his Manor Pharmacy
Shield final man-of-the-match award as his pace caused Shirland problems
throughout this entertaining encounter at Matlock Town's Causeway Lane ground
on Friday night.
Tricky
winger Daniel Noakes, who netted a braced, and Hilcote's other scorer Ryan
Pepper were also outstanding It was a highly competitive close match with
both teams providing flowing football and it was not until the second period
of extra-time that Hilcote tamed Shirland who were reduced to ten men for
more than an hour through numerous injuries.
Hilcote's
disallowed 23rd minute goal meant it was a goalless first-half but it was
within the first minute after the break that Shirland gained the advantage
with a well-worked goal from Steven Boot. Four minutes later and Hilcote
were back on level terms through Ryan and that's the way it stayed in a
match that saw both sides created great opportunities to win. On the full-time
whistle blown by referee Chris Hillman the teams were locked in a 1-1 deadlock.
Within
two minutes of extra-time Boot gave the much-fancied Shirland side the lead
with a trademark strike to earn his brace. But there was always a sense
that Hilcote would battle back from every setback and just fives minutes
later Noakes struck to equalise for the second time.
Shortly
after the turnaround Hilcote, a highly motivated side that showed great
pace and style, took the lead thanks to Pepper and five minutes from time
they extended their grip on the Manor Pharmacy Shield with a fourth from
Noakes.
In
the League on Saturday Darley Dale Lions super sub Aaron O'Neill netted
a brace, with a penalty winner to seal the points against Riddings Rovers
although the visitors were extremely unlucky not to earn something out of
the match.
Riddings
goals came from Mark Turner and Adam Coleman, while Lions Wes Harrop grabbed
the other for the league leaders that extended their lead to five points
with the 3-2 victory.
Matlock
Town Youth striker Scott Martin's superb solo effort earned his side all
three points in a 4-2 win away at Ashbourne.
In
a game that never really flowed the away side went in two up at half-time
with a close range left-footed effort from Craig Purcell and another from
Saul Asquith. Alex Crossley boosted the lead, but it was the straight red
for Tom Jackson whose two-footed tackle saw him walk which saw the game
change.
Ashbourne
scored two quick goals from Karl Frith and Gary Barker to get them back
into this match. But it was Martin's best goal of the day that settled things
for Matlock, as he beat three defenders before a powerful shot beat the
keeper.
Harveys
Bar and AFC Lea Holloway shared the spoils in an entertaining and well-contested
1-1 draw at Cavendish Playing Fields in Matlock. It was flowing football
from both sides and it wasnĠt until the second half that Holloway captain
Nigel Emberton nudged his side ahead. But it was some sloppy play soon after
that allowed Harveys' Dave Armshaw to equalise.
Laburnum
Saints and Kings Arms also shared the spoils in their match at Crich. Kings
scored with a strike from the edge of the area just before the break only
for Saints to reply within a couple of minutes of the break.
Tiresome
work from Chris Slack, Jimmy Thompson and Matt Warren saw Saints away man-of-the-match
Michael Charlton amble to the back post to head the second. Kings scored
a deflected lob late on. Kings goals came from Dan Spencer and Dan Holmes
while Charlton and Steve Prime netted for Laburnum.
Sporting
endeavour is always to be applauded and Black Hippo deserve great credit
for their season despite 22 league defeats, the last on Saturday away 6-5
against Tibshelf Community.
Hippo's
Josh Dakin commented: "We've improve over the season but due to lack
of players and no manager we couldn't scrape a win. We have shown we have
potential and will give 110% to get points on the board next season."
