Press round up
Team
of the week... Laburnum for sending in another report (however short) after
a defeat!
Laburnum's
dark day in Tibshelf
Tibshelf
Community 2 Laburnum 1
Home scorers:- Hart, Bacon
Away:- Clifton
A
dark day in Tibshelf, Laburnum started the game the brighter side defending
well and counter-acting when possible.
A
youthful Tibshelf team created chances but Saints took a 1 - 0 Andy Clifton
lead into half time.
Saints
should have had a penalty and Tibby's keeper sent off for a bad tackle.
Saints hit the post from the resultant free-kick but that was the closest
they came after that.
Tired legs
and giving the ball away cost Saints dear as Tibby got on top and scored
after 60 and 80 minutes with goals from John Hart and Dan Bacon.
Kings
reign over penalty-mad Shirland
Kings
Arms 2 Shirland Miners Welfare 1
Home scorers: Gregory, Berrisford-
Away:- Hursthouse
Kings
Arms upset the Matlock & District Football League form book on Saturday
in a 2-1 victory that left Shirland Miners Welfare extremely disgruntled.
It
was after the break, following a fairly quiet Crich first half, that the
deadlock was broken and sparks flew when referee Peter Bailey booked a Shirland
player for a push in the back resulting in a penalty, fired into the top
of the net by Scott Gregory.
Fuelled
up by this decision, Shirland pushed on and were rewarded with the equaliser
through Ian Hursthouse, but it was Kings who took the win with a great strike
by Peter Berrisford.
Bott
in control as Holloway consolidate
AFC
Lea Holloway 3 Ashbourne 2
Home scorers: Bott, Emberton, Pearson
Away:- Meredith, Clones
AFC
Lea Holloway continued their rise up the Matlock League table with a hard-fought
victory against a creative Ashbourne, battling back from behind twice with
Dave Meredith and Phil Clones goals from the visitors.
Both
sides created good early chances but it was Ashbourne who took the lead
when a cross from the right was headed into the corner by the Ashbourne
left winger.
Holloway
showed their new-found strength of character and scored a deserved equalizer,
Shaun Bott running onto a Dave Whitford through-ball and slotting past the
on-rushing keeper.
A
lack of concentration then allowed the Ashbourne striker to nip in and make
the half-time score 2-1 to Ashbourne.
Holloway
went back out determined to kept their unbeaten run intact following an
encouraging half-time team talk and got themselves back in the game with
25 minutes to go, Bott turning provider for Nigel Emberton who bravely beat
the keeper to the ball to clip home.
The
home side pushed for the winner which duly came through a fine strike from
the edge of the box from Adam Pearson. Ashbourne kept Holloway under the
cosh for the remainder of the game but solid defending from the whole team
kept the visitors at bay.
Harveys
punish Rovers
Riddings
Rovers 1 Harveys Bar 4
Home scorers: Clarke
Away:- Maycock, Griffiths, Woddhouse (2)
Harveys
had a different look to the side that played Shirland last week. After completing
signings earlier in the week changes were made to freshen the team up and
along with club captain Brian Owen, back from injury, Kieran Griffiths got
his call to the side after his switch across town from Matlock Youth.
Harveys
got the game underway and looked the better side going uphill in the first
half. It wasn't long before the deadlock was broken when David Armshaw's
flick found Colin Maycock who raced through and put Harveys 1-0 up after
ten minutes.
Harveys
then battled on to get the second and after some good work by Martyn Taylor
down the right and a cross which was deemed in when Rovers player thought
it was out was buried by new signing Griffiths. Harveys seemed to then switch
off and Rovers came back into the game with some neat work in midfield saw
their striker through on goal only to be taken down in the box. The penalty
was blazed over the back and Harveys were managed to hold out till half-time.
After
the break neither side took hold of the game from the whistle. Harveys stood
some pressure and while Griffiths was down with a foot injury Rover's carried
on and made the most of it going forward and winning a second penalty this
time Adrian Clarke made the most of it and put it in. But with that saw
Griffiths's game end and Craig Cantrill coming on.
Cantrill
made the most of it setting the third goal from a cross to find Tom Woodhouse
with a bullet header.
Rovers
were deflated and the heads went down after they had got back into the game
only minutes before. Harvey's then introduced another new signing Jamie
Sanderson who come on and looked lively.
Harveys
fourth goal came from a swift counter-attack after Taylor's through ball
found Woodhouse who took the ball from the halfway line and finished with
ease.
Rovers
did have a couple of chances to get back in the game but the final ball
and finishing couldn't break down a strong Harveys back five.
Harveys
had chances in the dying minutes with Cantrill's poor shot and Gratton with
a good run but both couldn't find the final touch.
Anthony
Wood MOM: Brian Owen (nominated by Riddings Rovers). MOM (nominated by Harveys
Bar) Mark Turner.
