Clifton
30-yard strike seals the points
Riddings
Rovers 0 Laburnum 1
Scorer: A. Clifton
Riddings
Rover 's report...
Laburnam came to Ironville
with a game plan and exercised it very well as a single Andrew Clifton goal
after half an hour was enough to earn the saints three well earned points.
Riddings
lacked fluency and that cutting edge in front of goal as many a goal scoring
opportunity was wasted in both halves of this game, Laburnam had chances
also to extend their lead but for some fine saves from Rovers stopper Danny
Clarke.
The
winning goal did in its self deserve to be just that as Clifton plucked
the ball from mid-air and given the time to turn by the home side he rifled
a 30-yard effort up and over Clarke straight into the top corner.
Saints
held on through sheer determination and a little bit of good fortune during
the second period and a special mention must go to Michael Charlton who
marshaled his defencive colleagues superbly and dominated everything in
the air to help his side claim what I'm sure is three welcomed and valuable
points.
Laburnum's
report...
Two weeks running Man
of the Match Simon Bunting marshalled his troops well. Good defending enabled
Tim Killick to keep back-to-back clean sheets.
Woo
Hoo!! A 20-man squad turned up firmly focused on progressing up the league.
Tiresome work from the midfield meant Saints restricted Riddings' chances.
Long
punts from the Riddings keeper put Laburnum defence under pressure which
they dealt with well. Michael Charlton and Dan Killick were focused at all
times but it was the unselfish running of Andy Clifton which earned the
points.
It
was from an amazing run, but the finish was that of a striker fit to play
at Anfield.
Great
encouragement came from the lads that didn't get a game, but there are plenty
more fixtures to go yet!!
A
special mention goes to Pete Denton who has come back from injury this season
but looked to be feeling it after 60 minutes!
Words
from a manager that cannot play anymore, but kicks every ball, lifted the
spirits of a team that are not doing well in the league but all know as
a team can do better. At last a win at Ironville in the league.
Keeper
Pearson's breathtaking saves
Darley
Dale Lions 2 Black Hippo 1
Home scorers: D. Stephenson, A Tann.
Away scorer: L. Travis
Because of a waterlogged
pitch at the Whitworth, Darley switched the fixture to the Hippo's ground
at Cavendish Fields.
Lions
were two goals up by half-time with a thundering volley from Danny Stephenson
and a well directed free kick from Andy Tann.
The
score could have been a lot more but for numerous breathtaking saves from
Stuart 'crazy legs' Pearson in the Hippo goal. Everything Darley threw at
him he managed to get a hand or a leg in the way and prevent more damage
to the scoreline.
The
second half was pretty much the same with Pearson in goal making save afterÊsave
to thwart the Lions attacks. At the other end Hippo got a consolation goal
from a corner via the head of Luke Travis.

Clifton
corker seals it for Saints
6
February, 2010
Striker Andy Clifton's
corker of a shot earned the improving Laburnum Saints all three points in
victory on the road against Riddings Rovers.
It
was an all-round solid performance from the Saints, with man-of-the-match
Simon Bunting marshalling his troops to the 1-0 win at Ironville.
Good
defending enabled keeper Tim Killick to keep back-to-back clean sheets and
tiresome work from the midfield meant Saints restricted Riddings' chances.
In defence Michael Charlton dominated everything in the air and played suberbly.
But
it was the unselfish running of Clifton which earned the points when he
plucked the ball from mid-air and was given time to turn. He rifled a 30-yard
effort up and over Riddings keeper Danny Clarke straight into the top corner.
Riddings
lacked fluency and that cutting edge, giving Laburnam chances to extend
their lead. Clarke was forced to pull off some fine saves.
League
leaders Darley Dale Lions, forced to switch their fixture to Cavendish Fields
because of a waterogged Whitworth pitch, maintained their four-point margin
with a thundering volley from Danny Stephenson and a well directed free-kick
from Andy Tann in the first half.
The
score could have been a lot more but for numerous breathtaking saves from
Stuart 'crazy legs' Pearson in the Black Hippo goal. Everything Darley threw
at him he managed to get a hand or a leg in the way and prevent more damage
to the scoreline.
After
the break it was pretty much the same with Pearson in goal making save after
save to thwart the Lions' attacks. Hippo got a consolation goal from a corner
via the head of Luke Travis.
Matlock
Town Youth kept up the pressure at the top with a 4-2 away win over Kings
Arms at Crich, with a brace each from Scott Martin and Tom Jackson.
It
was as tough day for Harveys Bar with a 9-1 hammering against Hilcote United
away at Huthwaite. Harveys' Tom Woodhouse's goal was the only reply to the
home side's 3-1 first half lead.
After
the break Ryan Pepper ran the game in the middle of the park to secure his
team's triumph.
Shirland
Miners Welfare bowed out of the Derbyshire Junior Cup North at the quarter-final
stage, beaten 5-3 by Chesterfield League outfit Holmefield.
League
fixtures this weekend (13 February, 2010) include Shirland Miners Welfare
v Darley Dale Lions, Harveys Bar v Black Hippo, Matlock Town Youth v AFC
Lea Holloway, Riddings Rovers v Kings Arms. Laburnum Saints v Hilcote United
and Ashbourne v Tibshelf Community.
