Club reports from Saturday, 5 December, 20009

Youth sneaked if from the Saints
Laburnum Saints 0 Matlock Town Youth 1
Away scorer: Mitchell

A good performance from the Saints saw early goal pressure, but even the efforts of Andy Clifton brought no reward and hard work from his forward partner at the time could not breach the Youth defence.

With a nil-nil score line at half time the Saints were pleased with their efforts and were optimistic for a good second half performance. Saints started strong but gave Youth chances pushing for the win. Subs were introduced but to no avail.

Chances kept coming but Saints' luck failed again and Youth broke away for Tom Mitchell to score the only goal of a very good match played in heavy conditions. Saints walked away very credible losers.

MOM: Steve Burnton, Ashbourne. MOM: Mark Turner, Riddings Rovers.

Clubs are failing to send in reports, so here is our another Press Round-up – added to when snippets of information are forthcoming

Matlock gain ground on top three

Matlock Town Youth gained on the top three with a single breakaway goal from Tom Mitchell in their clash with local Matlock & District Football League rivals Laburnum Saints who put in a good performance.

Despite the efforts of Andy Clifton the Saints failed to breach the away side's defence and the break came with a nil-nil scoreline. Pleased with their efforts, the Saints were optimistic for a good second half performance and started strongly against a pacy Matlock.

Chances kept coming but Saints' luck failed and Matlock broke away with Mitchell scoring the only goal of a very good match played in heavy conditions. Saints walked away credible losers.

Black Hippo started their home match against Ashbourne with just nine men and it was a more even encounter than the 3-0 defeat suggests. Against strong opposition Black Hippo's man-of-the-match goalkeeper Luke Travis was their star performer, pulling off a string of fine saves.

Riddings Rovers earn a 4-1 victory over Tibshelf Community with goals from Andrew Bonser, Mark Turner (2) and Shane Buckerfield. Danny Bacon scored for Tibshelf who were forced to play the match away at Ironville.

It's a trio of competitions this Saturday (12 December, 2009). Darley Dale Lions travel to face Hope Valley team Dove Holes in the third round of the Derbyshire Junior Cup North, after a great 1-0 victory against Tideswell under floodlights.

Matt Allsop scored the winner when they finally played the match at the fifth attempt, a victory that prompted manager John Marsden to say he was "proud of the lads".

Also with an away clash in this competition are Shirland Miners Welfare who face a tough test against Midlands Regional Alliance outfit Woolley Moor United.

Manor Pharmacy action this weekend sees Hilcote United v AFC Lea Holloway and Laburnum Saints v Ashbourne, while league games include Matlock Town Youth v Tibshelf Community, Kings Arms v Riddings Rovers and Black Hippo v Harveys Bar.
