Eight
victories keep Lions roaring
Riddings
Rovers 2 Darley Dale Lions 5
Home scorers:- Simpson, M Turner
Away: Stephenson (2), Webster, Allsop, O'Neill
Darley Dale Lions made
it eight wins from nine games as they won 5-2 away at Riddings Rovers.
The
first talking point of the game came after ten minutes with Riddings being
reduced to ten men after their striker received a straight red for foul
and abusive language towards the referee.
The
Lions then subsequently took the lead shortly afterwards with Aaron O'Neill
crossing perfectly for Danny Stephenson to finish smartly with the outside
of his right boot.
Many
would have expected the Lions to go on and comfortably win the game from
here but Riddings fought back scoring a stunning long range drive from James
Simpson to equalise and then taking the lead direct from a free kick from
Mark Turner to go in at half time 2-1 up.
After
the break Darley picked it up a gear and it wasn't long before they were
level. Man of the match Daz Longley whipped in the corner and Ash Webster
lost his man to score with a glancing header.
It
was 3-2 to Darley minutes later with another Daz Longley corner finding
Danny Stephenson who leapt like a salmon at the back post to direct his
header back across goal and into the far corner.
This
goal was then followed by a Matt Allsop strike who directed Matt Scott's
badly sliced shot into the bottom corner.
The
fifth and final goal was a headed Aaron O'Neill goal after a pinpoint cross
from Aaron Sellors.
Despite
it being a lacklustre display by Darley, it was a valuable three points
which sees them remain top of the league.
Harveys
hold Hilcote
Harveys
Bar 0 Hilcote United 0
Harveys Bar kept the
second clean sheet of the season as they continue to surprise visiting teams.
This
game was played in what can only be described as awful weather conditions.
With the wind stopping both teams from getting and clear cut chances from
open play.
It
was Hilcote who had the better of the chances in the first half against
the wind but struggled to find the finishing touch with Taylor getting his
first start proving a worth while addition helping to maintain the clean
sheet.
But
Harveys right back looked to the sky's after giving Hilcote a penalty after
five minutes only to see the ball hitting the post and clearing it to safety.
Centre
back Dan Smith had Harveys best chance and under some good pressure failed
to put Harveys in front.
Harveys
once again came out with something to prove in the second half. They had
their own chances to win the game with Swift and Armshaw putting the ball
the other side of the post.
In
different conditions this game would of been a different story but ending
the game 0 - 0 was good enough for Harveys Bar and a fair result at the
end.

Holloway's
new chapter begins
Tibshelf
Community 4 AFC Lea Holloway 4
Home scorers:-
Away scorers:- Bott, C Whitford (2 pens), Andrews
The eleven that showed
up for the game against Tibshelf started a new chapter in Holloway's season
with a well-earned point.
Gale
force headwinds didn't help Holloway who were 2-0 down at half-time. Holloway
made the most of the wind after the break and pulled a goal back when Shaun
Bott fired across the keeper with an angled shot from 20 yards. Bott then
won a penalty which Carl Whitford coolly slotted home to make it 2-2.
Holloway
then had to come from behind twice, Scott Andrews getting the last touch
on a Nigel Emberton shot to make it 3-3 before a second Carl Whitford penalty
earned a point for Holloway who had gone 4-3 down after Andrews' goal.
Saints
disappointed at Ashbourne
Ashbourne
3 Laburnum Saints 2
Home scorers:-
Away scorers:- Clifton, Denton
Saints travelled to
Ashbourne on a windy October afternoon with high hopes of coming away with
the points.
The
battle of wind direction was won on the toss of a coin and Ashbourne were
in charge.
Early
on, Saints withstood the pressure and started gaining momentum then a lapse
of concentration and a low shot gave Ashbourne the lead. Saints held their
own until half time with only a couple of headers and a Clifton strike to
shout about.
Saints
with the wind behind them then tried playing the long ball game. Chances
started to happen but it was Ashbourne who found the net again following
another defensive lapse.
It
was Andy Clifton that got Saints back into the game ten minutes later with
a low shot into the bottom left hand corner but Ashbourne turned up the
pressure straight away and equalised within minutes.
Ashbourne
then scored ten minutes later to leave the Saints struggling to muster much
at all. Pete Denton scored a very good finish to get Saints back into the
game at 3-2.
The
home side still having a stranglehold on the game had a few more chances
before Saints introduced the subs and chances started coming the other way.
Bunting moved
from centre half to main forward and was unlucky not to get on the end of
a McClean cross.
At
the end of the game Saints walked off very down on themselves and will have
to pick themselves up for the next week's home game against Kings Arms.
