Hegarty hat-trick sets up Shirland win
Shirland Miners Welfare 6 Riddings Rovers 1
Home scorers:- Hegarty (3), Harrison (2), Bellamy
Away scorers:-

Shirland raced to their biggest victory so far this season with a fantastic and confident performance against big rivals Riddings Rovers.

Numerous chances were made by Shirland right from kick-off but sloppy defending and a touch of bad luck put Riddings one goal up after 10 minutes.

Shirland's first goal came 5 minutes later with a stunning goal from Dale Hegarty who recived a perfect through ball from midfield captain Steven Boot. Hegarty picked out Richard Harrison and he in turn delivered a pinpoint pass back to Hegarty who outpaced the Rddings defence to hit a powerful shot for number two, the third goal also came from Shirland's new striker Hegarty after 20 minutes which now takes his tally to 4 goals in two games for Shirland.

At this point Shirland were playing some of their best football ever seen and this payed off with Shirland's fourth goal on 28 minutes. Ian Hursthouse flew passed two defenders only to be bought down in the box before he could shoot resulting in a penalty, up stepped Richard Harrison to slot home.

In the second half Harrison got his second goal of the game with some very sexy football, Richard is every football team's worst nightmare because he can destroy any defence in a click of a finger and he just keeps getting better and better with every game he plays!!

A few minutes later Hursthouse slotted home only to be rejected by referee Graham Brentnal and denied again 8 minutes later with a weird decsion.

On 70 mintues on came Lee Belamy for unlucky Hursthouse and within 10 minutes Lee won the ball in the penalty area, turned and fired with such a bolt that it ripped a hole in the back of the net, making the score 6-1. Shirland's Man of the Match went to Dale Hegarty.

Passing football secures Holloway points
Black Hippo 1 AFC Lea Holloway 3
Home scorers:-
Away scorers:- Pearson (2), Emberton

Both teams went into Wednesday's game on the back of two league defeats in a row and were determined to get their seasons on track in torrential rain and strong winds.

Holloway played some lovely passing football but only managed to hit the net once in the first half. A Shaun Bott cross was fumbled by the home team keeper in a challenge with Nigel Emberton and Adam Pearson was on hand to tap into an empty net.

The good football continued in the second half but again the chances weren't put away as often as we'd have liked. Holloway went 2-0 up midway through the second half with a tidy finish from 18 yards from Nigel Emberton and Pearson claimed his 2nd with a good left-footed finish from a tight angle. Black Hippo pulled one back with the last kick of the game.
