Teams lining up for
    the 2009-2010
 season

Welcome...

This is the official web site of the Matlock & District Football League – where we announce fixtures, publish reports, reveal breaking news and provide an outlet for our sponsors to enhancing the backing of local grassroots football.

The Matlock League was founded in 1898, with the winners of our first competition being Crich Stars. In 1905 the Cavendish Cup was donated by the Right Honourable Victor Cavendish (9th Duke of Devonshire 1868-1938). So, as you see, the league has been in operation for a very long time and we are looking to enhance our reputation by providing a valuable community outlet for football.

Ford drives Ashbourne to Shield victory
Ashbourne Town 3 Laburnum Saints 0
Scorers:- Tom Pugh 50, John Ford 73, 83.

Ashbourne Town lifted the Manor Pharmacy Shield in a highly competitive game against worthy rivals Laburnum Saints at Matlock Town's Causeway Lane ground.

And it was man-of-the-match John Ford who shone in a second half that saw Ashbourne step up a gear under floodlights. His goals on 73 and 83 minutes added to the opener from Tom Pugh which broke the deadlock on 50 minutes.

Laburnum kicked off this entertaining encounter and could so easily have been two goals up in the first half, although Ashbourne also had decent chances.

But it was the pace of Ashbourne that caused the damage as they were able to increased the tempo of the game with confidence, showing patience to earn the Matlock & District Football League's first trophy of the season.

Resilient Laburnum battled to the end in a match well managed by referee Graham Brentnall, his two linesman Chris Hillman and Adam Gratton and fourth official Barry White.

Derbyshire County Football Association vice-chairman Alan Smith handed the trophies out after this good-spirited, sporting final.

Both teams can be congratulate on their performances and conduct.
