only game off Ð with reports that club staff were unable to sink a key into
the pitch surface.
Best
of luck to Shirland Miners Welfare in their Derbyshire Junior Cup North
Quarter-Final against Chesterfield away against Chesterfield League side
Holmewood.
Shirland
had a 4-2 penalties victory in the last round against Woolley Moor United,
while their opposition Holmewood won 5-4 after battling back from 4-1 down.
Dave
Thurnham commented: 'We have been told they are a young side. We have four
players missing so we are up against it, but we will try our best and we
will make the league proud. We have a good bunch of lads who can cover for
the guys that are injured.Fingers crossed."

SNAPPY
NEW YEAR!
Freezing
temperatures took their toll on matches for this weekend with all games
off, including Shriland Miners Welfare's Derbyshire Junior Cup North third
round tie.
"We have removed all of the snow from the pitch for
the third time in two weeks but it looks like its the freezing temperatures
that will stop us again, " reported Dave Thurnhan. "The pitch
is in good condition but frozen solid so not looking good."
It wastestimony to the Shirland lads who made a stoic
effort to fulful their fixture against Woolley Moor United and we can only
hope their reward will eventually be a quarter-final slot against either
Hopflower or Holmewood.
In the Cavendish Cup Riddings were the first to call their
game off, followed by Harveys and Tibshelf with AFC Lea Holloway unable
to play while await Shirland's availability.
And in the League Ashbourne were also forced to call their
fixture off, with temperatures plummeting to record lows as the weekend

Lions dump Tideswell out of Derbyshire Cup
Darley
Dale Lions clinched victory over Tideswell in a showy encounter in the Peak
with Matt Allsop finishing a great move from a Mark Ashton cross from the
left wing to earn a third round Derbyshire Junior Cup North tie away against
Dove Holes.
It's taken five attempts to play the fixture and the win
comes despite Darley Dale Lions having to give home advantage to play under
floodlights. Asking how manager John Marsden felt he replied: "Proud
of the lads."
It takes two teams from the Matlock & District Football
League into the next round with Shirland
Miners Welfare facing an away clash at Woolley Moor United, both due to
be played on Saturday, 12 December, 2009.

WEATHER
OR NOT GAMES ARE ON! Rain
and high winds look to play a huge part in this weekend's fixtures. Tibshelf
Community's home clash against Kings Arms was called off by ground staff,
with 'standing water' already on the pitch and the forecast looking bleak.
AFC Lea Holloway's Derbyshire Cup match looked 50-50 on
Friday afternoon but was called off after 9am pitch inspection by Lea Green's
Andy Bailey. Similarly, Darley Dale Lions' clash with Tideswell and Laburnum
vs Pinxton North End were washed out. 11.11am we'll keep you informed.
Bakewell
Youth fold
5
October, 2009
Bakewell
Youth have announced their intention to fold following Saturday's 'no-show'
at Shirland Miners Welfare.
Despite their efforts to join adult football after playing
together as youngsters, Bakewell Youth have found it hard in a well-organised
Matlock & District Football League.
Secretary Jessica Stone explained: "I am having to
fold the team as we do not have enough players turning up to play and not
enough transport to get to away football matches."
She added: "I am sorry for this, but thanks for the
opportunity to let us play in your league."
Bakewell Youth are in negotiations regarding their commitment
and financial arrangements regarding their withdrawal.
Chairman Drew Robertson commented: "It is always
disappointing when teams fold. We gave them every encouragement, as we do
as a strong league, but it perhaps was a step too far for these youngsters
without the backing of more experienced footballing people."

Darley
Dale Lions' Aaron O'Neill netted ten goals as the Whitworth lads punished
new boys Bakewell Youth 23-0, while Matlock Town Youth gave Black Hippo
a harsh lesson with a 10-0 victory.
Kings Arms were in great form as they beat Holloway 4-3,
letting the Lea Green side off the hooked in a first half where there were
numerous chances squandered. In the end it was a close affair, with the
home side's Shaun Bott bagging a brace as his side dug deep to haul themselves
back into the game.

The Matlock & District Football League mourns the passing of one of
the modern heroes of the game...Sir Bobby Robson (18 February 1933 Ð 31

or perhaps with the respectful, faint roar of the football crowds
who adored him throughout the game!

Medal
found under floorboard, can you help?
Taking
up the floorboards proved intriguing for Ian Banton at his home on Greenhill,
Wirksworth.
He
explains: "I have found a silver runners-up medal from 1932-31 for
the Matlock and District Football league beneath my floor.
"I
would like to repatriate the medal with its rightful owner or his family?."
