    the 2009-2010
 season

Our history ...

This Matlock & District Football League was founded in 1898, with the winners of our first competition being Crich Stars. In 1905 the Cavendish Cup was donated by the Right Honourable Victor Cavendish (9th Duke of Devonshire 1868-1938).

This web site is the latest development in our rich history and aims to strengthen our position in the community by providing a valuable community outlet for football.

We update fixtures, results, reports and news on a regular basis – during the season as it happens.

Football fan and historian Terry Fletcher has sent MatlockFootball.co.uk these two pictures of Hopton Wood who won the Cavendish Cup in 1932-33 and again in 1934-35.

He is look for leads on names of players.

Those identified already are Samuel Else from Gorsey Bank, Wirksworth, second from the right, back row (next to the Goalie) and a shot of Stan Brewer with various trophies.

Terry said: "I hope you find these of interest but I'm still looking for 'leads' for more players names!"

Let us know whether you can identify any of these people by sending an e-mail to Drew Robertson at chairman@matlockfootball.co.uk
