Welcome...
This
is the official web site of the Matlock & District Football League
where we announce fixtures, publish reports, reveal breaking news
and provide an outlet for our sponsors to enhancing the backing of local
grassroots football.
The
Matlock League was founded in 1898, with the winners of our first competition
being Crich Stars. In 1905 the Cavendish Cup was donated by the Right
Honourable Victor Cavendish (9th Duke of Devonshire 1868-1938). So, as
you see, the league has been in operation for a very long time and we
are looking to enhance our reputation by providing a valuable community
outlet for football.

Magnificent
trophy has rich history
The Cavendish Cup is
a magnificent trophy with a rich history, dating back to 1905 when it was
donated to the Matlock League by the Right Honourable Victory Cavendish
the 9th Duke of Devonshire (1868-1938).
Apart
from a 16 year gap, due to war and disabandonment of the league, the trophy
has always been vigorously fought for. There are three teams that hold the
distinction for having won it five times...Winster St Johns, Wirksworth
Ivanhoe and Ashover.
Ashbourne
Town became our current champions after winning 3-2 in the traditional May
Day clash this year against Matlock Town Youth. This added to their Championship
title and Manor Pharmacy Shield victory a clean sweep in their first
season with us.
