Chase
for the coveted Derbyshire Cup
14
September , 2009
The
much-coveted Derbyshire Junior Cup North is a prize clubs cherish and is
a hard-fought competition with the standard covering a wide range of clubs.
Our teams will got into their clashes on Saturday, 17 October, 2009, with
great hope of strong cup runs.
Former
Matlock & Districk Football League club Cotes Park showed it could be
done by one of our clubs when they won it in 2007-2008. Current champions
are Chapel Town who won 2-0 against Dronfield Town, who played AFC Lea Holloway
in the opening round last term.
Derbyshire
County Football Association is currently appointing officials for games
and once this is done the draw sheets, rules and regulations and contact
details of the clubs participating will be fowarded to all those involved.
We
will attempt to bring you news f of your opponents, so call back to check
regularly, but in the meantime fixtures
for teams entered from the Matlock & District Football League are:-
Black Hippo v F C United of Tideswell
Newly
formed Black Hippo take on FC United of Tideswell who play their regular
football in the Hope Valley Amateur League Division B.
Kings
Arms v Wirksworth Ivanhoe
It's
a local clash for Kings Arms as they play hosts to Midlands Regional Alliance
Division Two team Wirksworth Ivanhoe, who have had a steady start to their
season with four wins and a draw from seven games.
Wirksworth
Ivanhoe travel the shortish journey to Crich after two home games in last
season's competition. The first was a close encounter against Peak Dale,
winning through 4-3 on penalties only to be beaten in the following stage
2-1 by Clowne Miners Welfare
Langer
Lane United v Harveys Bar
Former Derbyshire Cup finalists Langer Lane United
play in the Chesterfield and District Amateur League, which sits at level
13 of the English football league system, and they have done for the last
ten seasons.
With
just one division of 12 clubs the league is a feeder to the Central Midlands
Football League. League form so far includes just one outing when they were
beaten by Clowne Wanderers 9-2
Previously
known as Birdholme Furnace, then Birdholme Nags Head, the club dropped the
'Birdholme' bit four seasons ago and were known as Nags Head, until the
current season, when the pub closed for six months. Despite being 'homeless',
the club were determined not to fold and chose their present name, simply
because they play on Langer Lane in Birdholme (S40 2JE). With hopes of The
Nag now up and running again, a name change may on the cards!
The
team have finished third in their league for the last two seasons, with
four league semis thrown in for good measure. They reached the Derbyshire
Cup final in 2005, played at Glapwell, unfortunately losing to Whaley Thorns
in a penalty shoot out 5-4. The same club went on to win it by defeating
Hayfield 5-2 the following year.
Priding
themselves as a well-run club Langer Lane manager Dave Jones explained:
"We are very much family club. Our chairman
is an ex-player who still turns out when needed, alongside his two sons,
and we have four sets of brothers signed on!'
Langer
Lane club colours are all blue and facilities include changing rooms have
showers.
Darley
Dale Lions v Edale
With a strong, confident start to their league campaign Darley Dale Lions
will be confident that goals will continue when Hope Valley Amateur League
Division
B side
Edale visit Whitworth Park. Edale
went out of last season's competition in the first round when Harveys Bar
opponents Langer Lane United beat them 4-3.
Darley
Dale will be wanting to avenge a similar early exit when they were dumped
out of the Derbyshire Cup 6-3 over at Shirland Athletic.
Shirland
Miners Welfare v Renishaw Social Club
With an impressive start to the season Shirland Miners
Welfare entertain Chesterfield and
District Amateur League side Renishaw
Social Club, who have had a contrasting start to their campaign with just
one draw in their first three games.
Renishaw
got knocked out of the cup 2-0 at home in the first round last season's
event by Bakewell Town.
Riddings
Rovers v Bakewell Town
Last season's Derbyshire Junior Cup finalists Dronfield
Town stopped Bakewell 3-2 in the second round and this time the Hope Valley
Amateur League
Division A side
travel to Ironville to take on Riddings Rovers.
With
a great 10-2 victory in the opening round against Derbyshire Amateurs, Riddings
were dumped out of the competition 4-3 in a second round clash against Matlock
fellower leaguers Tibshelf.
Bamford
v Matlock Town Youth
It's a trip to Hope Valley Amateur League Division
B outfit Bamford for Matlock Town Youth who went straight into round two
with a bye, but were knocked out 8-2 at home to Whaley Bridge Athletic.
Bamford
also walked into the second round but were promptly dumped out of the competiton
15-0 to Shirland Athletic.
Hathersage
v Bakewell Youth
Matlock's new lads Bakewell Youth will have a testing
trip to last season's quarter-finalists Hathersage. The Hope Valley Amateur
League Division
A team exited the competition 2-1 at the hands of Cotes Park.
Byes

Saints. Both go through to the second round due to be played on Saturday,
15 November, 2009.
Hilcote
United have got a bye in the first round of the Nottinghamshire Saturday
Minor Cup, which they play in as based in Huthwaite they fall under the
jurisdiction of Notts FA and take part in their county competitions.
